From Feedback to Action: Introducing the Deep Dive Reading Lab

At the St. Charles Tutoring Lab, we believe that listening is one of the most important parts of teaching. Recently, we hosted an ACT Camp and invited students to share what they learned, what they enjoyed, and what skills they felt they still needed to strengthen.

The feedback was both positive and insightful.

Students shared that they gained confidence, learned new test-taking strategies, improved their understanding of key math concepts, and developed a better understanding of how to approach the ACT. As we reviewed their responses, one theme continued to emerge:

Reading matters.

Whether a student is solving a math word problem, analyzing a science passage, answering questions on the ACT or SAT, preparing for a CLEP exam, or completing college coursework, strong reading skills are essential.

Many students do not struggle because they lack intelligence or effort. Instead, they struggle because they have not been taught how to efficiently identify key information, determine an author’s purpose, make inferences, and navigate complex texts.

For this reason, we are excited to introduce a new opportunity for students this summer: Deep Dive Reading Lab.

Why Reading?

Reading is the one skill that impacts every subject area.

Strong readers are better equipped to:

  • Understand complex directions
  • Analyze information
  • Solve word problems
  • Learn independently
  • Perform well on standardized tests
  • Succeed in college and career settings

In today’s world, students are exposed to more information than ever before. The ability to read, think critically, and process information effectively is becoming increasingly valuable.

What Students Will Learn

The Deep Dive Reading Lab will help students develop skills such as:

  • Identifying main ideas
  • Determining an author’s purpose
  • Understanding tone and perspective
  • Making evidence-based inferences
  • Improving reading efficiency
  • Strengthening comprehension
  • Applying reading strategies to ACT, SAT, CLEP, AP, and college-level texts

Students will engage with a variety of passages and learn practical strategies they can immediately apply in school and on exams.

Looking Ahead

One of the greatest joys of teaching is seeing students grow. The feedback from ACT Camp reminded us that students are eager to learn, improve, and challenge themselves when given the right tools and support.

We are grateful for every family that entrusts us with their student’s educational journey. We look forward to continuing that journey through the Deep Dive Reading Lab and helping students build a skill that will serve them for years to come.

📚 Read Faster. Think Deeper. Score Higher.
